Day 1 - Wear Red - Proud to Be Drug Free
Focus questions: What does drug free mean?
Why should we be drug free?
There is a short video on the history of red ribbon week on youtube .
The discussion could be done with a yes/no format. Asking questions and the students respond yes or no if that would be something good for their body.
Is broccoli good for your body?
Is smoking good for your body? Etc. (They can answer with thumbs up or down, one side of the room is yes the other no and they go to the side that answers the question.
Teach the “I’ve Decided” (song)
Day 2 Lei off drugs - Wear a lei to school or Hawaiian clothes Making good choices.
Sing the song
Making good choices keeps you healthy and happy - Read the story, “The Bad Seed.”
Focus question: How did making good choices help the bad seed to be happy?
Day 3 Team Up Against Drugs - wear sports apparel to school.
Sing the song
The friends you choose to be around help you to make good choices.
Read, “The Spider and The Fly.” (this story lends itself to a good discussion about peer pressure)
Day 4 Our School Chooses to be Drug Free - wear school shirt- we will sign a pledge to be drug free.
Sing the song
Team building activity in the afternoon - One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish game or the arms twisted pretzel.
We will discuss working together and how if we work together we can do more.
Read, “Click, Clack, Moo!”
Day 5 - Having Fun by being drug free
Students will brainstorm a list of ways to have fun that we will display in the school.
